I have always been a history student, especially when it comes to the companies and products I use daily. Therefore, I will spend this article discussing the story of one of my favorite companies that makes shoes and boots: Danner. I have a personal interest and love for Danner, which is mainly due to the fact that I have owned several of their boots over the years. Danner is a fantastic company that I think makes some of the best shoes and shoes on the market today. They are steeped in history and continue to follow the same traditions and practices as their founder, Charles Danner. In 1932, Charles Danner founded the Danner Shoe Manufacturing Company in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. His mission was to make quality boots and shoes that were cheap for the average American. What I find interesting is that he did it right in the middle of the Great Depression. a pretty risky company at the time if you ask me.
Mr. Danner always thought that a pair of boots would be handmade with the best materials and of the highest quality. Because of this belief, he moved the Danner Shoe Company and his family to Portland, Oregon in 1936. The reason for this was his discovery that a certain type of lumber was manufactured and sold for $ 20 in the Pacific Northwest. He concluded that there was a market for high-quality boots and shoes and felt that it was a perfect environment for his new company. That was another risk for Mr. Danner and his company, but one that eventually paid off. From 1936, Danner Shoe Company continued to grow and expand. After World War II, Danner had cemented his reputation as a company of very high standard. It continued its original practice and beliefs on quality craftsmanship that Charles Danner set many years earlier.
In 1957, a new big change occurred when Charles Danner handed over the company's reign to his two sons, John and Bill Danner. Several years later, in the 1960s, Bill Danner bought his brothers' stake in the company and became sole owner. The 60s and 70s brought even more changes to the Danner Shoe Company. Danner began to make hiking shoes in response to the increased demand and popularity of outdoor activities that became more common. Their very first hiking shoe was Danner Mountain Light. The mountain light was then considered revolutionary, and to this day it is thought to be one of the pioneers in the world of hiking shoes. One of the biggest developments occurred in 1979, when Danner partnered with WL Gore & Associates to make the very first waterproof hiking trail: Mountain Light.
Forming partnership with WL Gore & Associates is the path for a partnership that continues to this day. Danner underwent another change of leadership in 1983, when Eric Merck bought the company. In 1994, Danner Shoe Company merged with LaCrosse Footwear, another company with a long history of producing high quality shoes. Danner celebrated its 65th anniversary in 1997, including the LaCrosse 100th anniversary. Today, Danner's original mission to produce quality engineered boots and shoes is still very much in place and alive. Danner has recently branched out and created his Stumptown line; a range of vintage-inspired and modern boots for the style / fashion audience that looks great on the street and trail. In addition to their range of hiking shoes, Danner also offers a complete range of shoes for military, law enforcement, hunting, work, hunting and outdoor activities.
