Today's houses are built for strength, durability, energy efficiency and of course unique beauty. To provide all these benefits, the logs should be ground or hand-sharpened with a tight fit during the construction and oven dried to reduce moisture content, remove mold and fungi, kill all insects and stabilize the wood.
All wood emits moisture until an equilibrium is reached within the forest cells. When this equilibrium is reached, the dimensions of the log will change (the logs will shrink). A log house built from air-charged, green or standing dead (not oven-dried) logs is expected to determine as much as three inches per eight meter wall height. Instructions are given to the homeowner on how to adjust the walls with jackets, bolts and other mechanisms every two years. Doors can hold, floors can be triggered and roofs can slow. This is what may be the case with log houses built with logos with high humidity. True furnace drying eliminates these problems and the need for adjustments.
Right ART WORK DRYING logs during the manufacturing process will
* Stabilize the wood
* Exposing controls in the wood (it will happen anyway) enables turning of logs during milling to place controls in incurable places giving a better finish
* Kills boring insects (beetles) and decay fungi
* Produce an easier log saving cost for transportation and light construction
* Creates a better surface to accept blemishes and finishes
If your logs manufacturer says they are oven-dry, make sure they
Tumble dry for at least 30 days
Temperatures reach 180 degrees
Logs are monitored and then sampled and weighed
Logs that do not meet the level of moisture level needed are dropped from the process[gallery columns="3" size="full" order="asc" orderby="ID"]
